Steven Alexander James (born November 21st, 1968 in Bournemouth, England), called Alex, is the bass player in the band Blur and a member of Fat Les. When Stephen moved to Camden in the mid-90s he met Alex, living opposite the Dublin Castle with the woman who became Blur drummer Dave Rowntree's wife. Legend has it that Stephen approached Alex in the local Tesco and announced himself a fan of Blur's music. When Damien Hirst , a friend of Alex, was commissioned to make a film ("Hanging Around") for the "Spellbound" exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London, he asked Alex to write him a song. Alex gathered Stephen, Justin Welch of Elastica and an old school friend called Charlie Bloor to form "supergroup" MeMeMe. In 1996 their single "Hanging Around" was released on Indolent. One of Alex' songs called "Tempus Fugit" featured on the B-side of the "Duffy" single "Sugar High" and Alex played bass on Stephen's solo album "I Love My Friends".

Jonathan "J.J." Jeczalik was one third of '80s sampling pioneers Art Of Noise and had the nickname 'Mr Fairlight'. In the '80s he worked with such heavyweights as Kate Bush, Godley & Creme and Paul McCartney, as well as producing the 1985 version (the hit version) of "Kiss Me". The Art Of Noise finally folded in 1991. Since then he has been working on a project called, without a hint of irony, "The Art of Silence".

The answer to a question that we get asked frequently and has been doing the rounds for 20 years is "Who is Joad?" Well thanks to Nick Duffy we can finally answer that question. "Joad" was Robert (Bob) Gannon. It is hard to explain exactly what Joad did around the 1984 to 1985 period, a sort of cross between Paul Rutherford (FGTH) and Bez (The Happy Mondays). He did some backing vocals for three tracks on "The Ups and Downs" and more mysteriously appeared on the Smash Hits Yearbook 1986 photoshoot (see publications). It was on that shoot that Nick recalls "in the cab home that day, Bob "Joad" Gannon, grilled the photographer about his work, and that was how he became a professional himself. How exactly it was that he fell into the niche he did, no-one is quite sure, but before long he was going from one war zone to another, documenting atrocities. The last I heard of him was reading his report from Tiananmen Square in The Guardian. There were no pictures - he'd had his camera smashed by the authorities. He got off lightly." Some of Bob's work can be seen here amber online.
