about this site

In August 200 duffypedia "went live". It had started being "just" a discography for Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time meant for private use only:

Sabine: It all started when the third copy of "17" arrived in my post box. I had switched to collector mode and obviously lost overview of what I already owned and what was still out there for me to find. There are a couple of fantastic sites about Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time, but none of them offered a discography for the completionist collector to resort to. They all serve a different purpose. So I started a database of my own. And then I got lost in the '80s jungle of diversion, aversion, inversion... Chris, the greatest Duffy anorak that ever breathed (and the only man that can talk about the history of the VCR for hours), came to my rescue and the project became a team effort. I couldn't have done it without you, mate.

Chris: Where does obsession begin and end? A school library in 1984 was my first contact with SAJD, with a free signed (silver ink) 12" of "She Makes Me Quiver" given away by my tutor. The obsession didn’t start until the following year with an exchange year to Sweden where I had stupidly started a relationship 3 weeks before leaving England and "The Girl". It was painful and all I could prescribe was a C90 mixtape I had made with The Ups and Downs and all the b-sides and remixes. 21 years and 16 albums later the obsession still burns as strongly....maybe I ought to get out more?

There is a couple of people who helped getting this off the ground in the first place or contributed information over the years:

Dominic van Abbe, who spotted a mistake in the discography.
Cécile Benistand and our friends at http://aztecmoon.free.fr, who contributed photos to the gallery
Markus Bleutge, who contributed photos to the gallery and vast amounts of information, like magazine articles and especially The Ups & Downs fanzine.
Graham Buxton, who contributed photos to the gallery.
Stuart Collie, who contributed articles, photos, promotional stuff and found typos.
Jim Donato, who sent information about yet another compilation for the discography.
Ignacia Donoso, who contributed the sound on sound interview to the publications.
Nick Duffy, who contributed so much, we really don't know where to start.
Stephen Duffy, who proofread lyrics.
Fu, who corrected a mistake in the who's who.
Kevin Goodall, who sent a list of compilations that contain one or the other SD/TLT song. He also donated the Duffy newsletter and other official communication like promo letters to the archive (see "Publications"). And if that wasn't enough, he sent jpgs of flyers, tickets and ads.
Sagat Guirey, who answered our various questions patiently.
Lydie Hannequin, who corrected a mistake in the who's who.
Mark Hughes, who contributed photos to the gallery and lots of stuff for the publications.
Joan, Jean and Karen (aka "the Stickler"), who have corrected typos.
John Knapp, who contributed photos to the gallery.
Katharina Mecklenburg, who contributed photos to the gallery.
Sharon at uberdesign, who helped put new paint on our walls.
Stewart Reynolds, who named the site, gave us a home and has recently also help to get the mailing list going.
Tom Warrington, who added infos to the concerts page and pictures to the gallery.
Autumn de Wilde, who allowed us to use pictures she took of Stephen in the gallery.
Retts Wood, who allowed us to use one of the photos she took of Stephen in our "logo".
Jens Wunderling, who designed the logo, re-styled the navigation and helps with the coding.
